I am an Assistant Professor studying behavioral science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I am in the Management department, and am also affiliated with the Psychology department. I am a faculty affiliate of the Institute for Diversity Science. I received my PhD from Cornell University and my B.Sc. from Yale University.
In one program of research, I study how people evaluate – and misevaluate – their own expertise and learning. For example, my work addresses questions such as: Why do people sometimes claim to know stuff they don’t know, and what are the consequences? When learning new information, why do people consistently choose ineffective learning strategies? And what can people learn from chatting with strangers and colleagues?
In another program of research, I explore questions at the intersection of gender and communication. For example, I look at gender effects on the way people speak to and about professionals, and how decision makers communicate about gender-related issues.
